Goldberry Grove
Nut & Fruit Dishes

Black walnut cake, persimmon bread, wild plum marmalade.

We’ve been working through a stack of West Virginia community cookbooks, the oldest put together by the Woman’s Club of Logan in 1963, and typing every recipe up so it’s easy to cook from. A lot of them lean on the trees we’re growing on the hill: black walnut, hickory, persimmon, plum, apple. Every cook’s name and hometown is kept as printed.

From the recipe box to the hill

Come learn the trees behind these recipes.

Black walnut, hickory, persimmon, American plum, pawpaw, apple. We’re growing them on twenty acres above Summersville and teaching what we learn as we go: native plant ID, grafting, foraging walks. Sit in on a workshop, pick in season, or take a few trees home from our sister nursery.

Where these come from

Five community cookbooks, credited as printed.

Every recipe keeps its cook’s name and hometown exactly as the book printed them. Where a book didn’t print a hometown, we say so rather than guess. Anything we couldn’t read is marked on the recipe.
